Getting to Know Negril, Jamaica

Negril, Jamaica, is famous for its outstanding beaches, delicious cuisine and impressive scenery. Additionally, its beautiful coastline boasts five miles of 40-foot cliffs from which miraculous stunts are performed by experienced divers. Because of its unique attractions and engaging landscapes, the area is considered an ideal tropical getaway destination. It is perfect for couples, singles, and families with children. It is also regarded as a top destination for honeymooners. Below are some details about the island and all it has to offer our visitors from around the world:

Our Piece of Paradise

Initially named for its towering black cliffs, Negril was once merely a tiny, slow-paced fishing village. However, throughout the 1960s and 1970s, vacationers found the town’s reggae music, lovely beaches and laid-back lifestyle appealing. The town has been a highly popular vacation spot ever since among those searching for a friendly environment in which to relax and unwind.

The area’s famous 40-foot cliffs are located on the west end of the town, and their dramatic and unique appearance has made them one of the world’s most well-known tropical geological formations. When used as the backdrop for a popular James Bond movie, “Thunderball,” the cliffs earned an additional moment of fame and are as unforgettable in real life as they were in Ian Fleming’s film.

Beaches

Seven Mile Beach is Jamaica’s most famous beach and it is located in the heart of the town. Starting out as a beach that appealed primarily to members of the 60s hippie revolution, Seven Mile Beach is now a full-scale resort destination, complete with bars, restaurants, clubs, all-inclusive resorts, and stores of essentially every variety. The crystal blue waters, pristine white sand, perfect weather and tropical foliage make this beach a favorite of individuals of all ages and from all walks of life.

Bloody Bay Beach

Bloody Bay Beach is another option for those visiting Jamaica. Despite its name, which dates back to the English Civil War when Cromwell drove Spaniards from the island, the beach is beautiful, romantic and well suited for picnics, moonlit walks, or quiet days in the sun. Nude sunbathing is permitted at both Seven Mile Beach and Bloody Bay Beach.

Island Fare and Nightlife

Negril also boasts a thriving nightlife and terrific dining options. Visitors can indulge in the island’s authentic Caribbean dishes, such as fresh fish prepared with island spices, famous jerk chicken, and delicious beef kabobs. The island is also renowned for its unique cocktails, which often contain fresh juice from locally produced fruits, as well as plain, white or spicy rum. Visitors can enjoy cocktails at one of the numerous mini bars that pepper Negril’s beaches.

Water Activities

Those interested in water sports are always pleased with what they find in this area of Jamaica. Options include parasailing, glass bottom boat rides, scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling and kayaking. Beach adventures such as these add to the excitement and fun of a tropical vacation, especially for those who have never before tried any of these activities.
